NOAA NCEP Real Time Ocean Forecast System - Atlantic

RTOFS-Atlantic is an operational data-assimilating ocean analysis and forecasting system run daily by NOAA Weather Service. The table below provides access to RTOFS data and supporting information. OPeNDAP or http access is provided for recent (< 30 days old) files. Files may be downloaded either in the original GRiB2 format or as netCDF. Two sets of RTOFS products are provided: 3D files that contain daily 3-dimensional fields reported for a series of depths measured in meters below mean sea level; and hourly fields reported for the surface level only. Both file types use the native RTOFS curvilinear computational grid in the horizontal. Access is also provided for older (>30 days) files, available as GRiB2 downloads from the National Oceanographic Data Center. More information on RTOFS and its output is contained in the metadata and on the NCEP website at http://polar.ncep.noaa.gov/ofs/index.shtml

The NODC archive of RTOFS stored as grib2 can be found at: http://data.nodc.noaa.gov/ncep/rtofs/

RTOFS Coverage

RTOFS is based on a curvilinear grid. This map shows the outline of this grid. The location of each pixel is defined by a set of latitude and longitude grids; click here for an explanation.
